Each Basement Tectonics conference is run independently and organized independently of previous conferences. Thus, organizers of each Basement Tectonics conference obtain their own funding and seek their own sponsors for each meeting. The wide variety of sponsors and sponsoring organizations reflects this independence. For the early meetings, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and the U.S. Geological Survey were consistent sponsors and still could be today, depending on budgetary conditions.
